Bronze Foundry or Trading Company? How to Tell in Vietnam
Ten questions only a working bronze foundry can answer, what a trader adds or hides, and how to verify casting capacity in Vietnam without flying there.
A working bronze foundry can show you its furnaces, sand moulds and fettling benches on a live video call; a trading company can usually show you photographs. That is the fastest test, not the only one. Ask about wall thickness, who keeps the pattern, what tolerance is normal and why a size-65 altar set weighs about 36 kg, and a foundry answers from the floor. A trader answers after checking with the factory. Neither is wrong by nature, but you should know which one you are paying.
Why does it matter who pours the metal?
Most problems on a bronze order start at the mould and the pour: porosity, cold shuts, thin walls, a crane that leans. The only people who can fix them are the ones holding the crucible. When a piece is more than 5 cm out on one dimension, it has to be re-cast, and a trader has to ask someone else to do that, on someone else's schedule.
Timing follows the same logic. Our casting window is 21–30 days from pattern approval, plus finishing and freight. A trader can only pass on a date it has been given, and it adds a margin and a message relay to every question you ask. Our own process is laid out station by station on the foundry page.
What can a foundry show that a trader cannot?
- The melting yard and crucible furnaces, filmed live rather than from a stock clip
- Green-sand moulds bedded in a trench, and lost-wax work for undercuts and fine relief
- Rough castings coming out of broken moulds, with runners still attached
- Fettling and chasing benches, where seams are filed and detail is cut back in by hand
- The patterns it holds for repeat orders, and who owns them
- Its own tolerance figures, stated before the order rather than after a claim
Which questions expose a trader on a video call?
Ask these in one call, without warning. The answers matter less than how fast they come.

When is a trading company the better choice?
A good trader earns its margin when your container mixes categories: bronze with lacquerware, wood and textiles from several villages, consolidated, inspected and documented as one shipment. It also helps when you need a buyer's agent in your time zone, or when your order is too small for any single workshop to take seriously. Our lines are all cast bronze. If your container needs other crafts as well, a trader or a consolidating forwarder will serve that part better than we would.
How do Alibaba listings blur the line?
Marketplace profiles let a company tick both "manufacturer" and "trading company", and product photographs travel freely between listings. When we checked the Vietnamese suppliers listed under bronze casting in September 2026, there were only a handful, and most read as trading businesses rather than foundries. What should the paperwork show?
The business registration, the proforma, the bank account and the exporter on the shipping documents should all carry one legal name, and the address should match the building you saw on the call. Ask what audits the supplier holds and ask for the certificate. We do not hold BSCI, ISO or similar audit certificates and will not claim them; how we check our own goods instead is set out on our quality control page.

Can I watch the furnace on a video call?
Yes. Message us on WhatsApp to book a call. Pours run on a schedule, so we will tell you when the next one is; the furnaces, moulds and finishing benches can be shown on most working days.
Is a trading company cheaper?
Rarely on the same piece, because a trader buys from a workshop and adds a margin. It can be cheaper overall when it saves you a second supplier, a second inspection and a second shipment.
Whose name goes on the certificate of origin?
The exporter's. If a trader exports, its name appears. Check that the exporter matches the invoice and the company you pay, and ask how the manufacturer is identified.
Can I visit the workshop?
Yes. It is about two hours by car from Ha Noi, and a visit can be combined with our showrooms in Nam Dinh, Ha Noi and Hai Phong. See the FAQ for other common buyer questions.
Can a foundry consolidate other product categories?
Some do, which makes them part trader. We cast bronze only. For mixed containers, a consolidating forwarder or a trading company is the better fit.
